The Most Preserved Mummy - Rosalia Lombardo

Rosalia Lombardo, the most preserved mummy ever found. Laying in a wooden - glass covered coffin at the Capuchin Catacombs, Palermo, Italy. By looking at the photo below, Rosalia seems newly die one day ago, that's why she is often referred to as The Sleeping Beauty. In fact, this girl was died about 90 years ago. Rosalia died in December 6, 1920 because of bronchial infection when she was 2 years old. The mummy became famous because its excellent preservation of her body. Rosalia's embalmer was Professor Alfredo Salafia, an Italian chemist who discovered a way to preserve bodies using a special formula.

Rosalia Lombardo is not alone, in the Capuchin Catacombs there are another 2000 mummies which are 400 years older. She was one of the last few persons to be mummified after which the process was banned finally. As you can see on the picture below, mummies are preserved at different level, some of them still have nose and cheek in place but others are not in the best shape.
